Who We Are

What We Believe

Mason Community Church believes that the Bible is God's Word for all times.  Hebrews 4:12 says, "The Word of God is living and active.  Sharper than and double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."  We are convinced that the Bible is God's vital and vibrant love letter to those who believe.  The Bible reveals the character of God and the character of those who follow him.

Mason Community Church believes that the way of salvation is presented clearly and concisely in the Bible.  John 14:6 says, "I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me."  John 3:16-18 makes it even more clear.  God gave his Son as our redeemer. Whether you accept the salvation Jesus offers is the most important choice you can make for all eternity.

Our Message
We are given the mandate from God to 'make disciples.'  That command is what MCC is committed to doing.  In all we do and in all we say, our greatest desire is to help every person grow closer to God because of us.
Leadership and Staff

July 1, 2003 started the most recent chapter in the story of MCC when Steve Malson was hired as pastor (by congregational call).  Pastor Steve came in with a history of church leadership, and the fit between the strengths/needs of MCC fit wonderfully with his strengths/needs.  Pastor Steve has a clear track record of conversion growth and MCC is working to become a congregation committed to introducing Jesus to more people than it ever has before.

Merilyn Ruthig had been a volunteer in the SonQuest children’s program for several years.  In the Spring of 2005, the number of kids helped MCC make the decision to hire Merilyn as a part-time Children's Ministry Director.  The dynamic nature of our children's ministry would seem to indicate wisdom on the part of our decision makers!

Becky Perrine is MCC's secretary.  Becky puts the pieces together behind the scenes by handling the administrative tasks of the church and activities.

The decisions of church life (finances, facilities, and programs) are made either during the quarterly congregational meetings or at the monthly meetings of the Leadership Council.  In 2006, James Voss will continue as the moderator of the Leadership Council. Whereas all who are interested can attend congregational and Council meetings and even voice their opinions, one must be a member of MCC to have a vote.  There are a host of legal and common sense reasons for this, but there is no need to lay it out here.

Brief History

Mason Community Church (MCC) has only been known as Mason Community Church since early 2003.  Before that time, MCC was called First Baptist Church of Mason.  The congregation began ministry in Mason way back in 1839, and was located just south of the square in Mason.  In 1962, the present building was constructed at 1000 E. Columbia St. (On the east edge of Mason).  The building is located just north of Mason Middle School. The same evangelical commitment that birthed this congregation so long ago still moves in the hearts, prayers, and lives of those who comprise MCC.

MCC is loosely affiliated with the American Baptist Churches of Michigan, but is an autonomous church that makes its own decisions and takes responsibility for the quality and character of its ministry. MCC remains true to biblical standards regarding salvation, relationships, and purpose, but has chosen to be more contemporary than traditional in its style.  The style expresses itself in song selection, instrumentation, and attire while the clear biblical message is expressed in the teaching.  The Psalmist proclaimed, "Sing unto the Lord a new song!"  We do.  The apostle Paul proclaimed that nobody should preach a salvation other than that of Christ.  We don't.
